Department of Agricultural Statistics

A unit of Agricultural Statistics came into existence in 1956 and initially it was attached to the Department of Agronomy. The functions and activities of this department had further widened in the field of planning of experiments and data analysis apart from the routine teaching work, which underlined the necessity of a separate department. Later, the Government of Kerala sanctioned the establishment of an independent department, which, led to the formation of Department of Agricultural Statistics in 1968 under the guidance of Prof. E.J Thomas.

With the formation of Kerala Agricultural University in 1972, the research activities were further strengthened and the department had undergone considerable expansion at this stage. During this period a number of courses in Agricultural Statistics were formulated to suit the discipline-wise requirements of the students. In 1972, research projects were implemented in this Department by the University and the staff strength was also enhanced by posting an Associate Professor and Assistant Professor.
