MISSION AND GOALS
Excellence in Agricultural Education, Research and Extension for sustainable agricultural development and livelihood security of farming community is the mission of the College of Agriculture, Vellayani. Our goal is to provide human resources, skills and technology required for sustainable development of agriculture, including Crop production, Animal Husbandry, Home Science and other allied disciplines by integrating education, research and extension. The college focusses its strategy on synergizing multi-disciplinary education and strengthening problem-specific research relevant to the state and help building innovative extension systems for sustainable management of natural resources, sustainable agricultural production and overall improvement of rural livelihoods.
Objectives
To achieve its mission and goals, the College of Agriculture, Vellayani has set the following objectives:
- Impart quality education in agriculture, horticulture, veterinary and animal sciences, agricultural engineering, home science, and allied sciences, making it responsive to the growing demands of society and the aspirations of the farming community.
- Produce quality-assured breeder, foundation, certified, and labeled seeds of major crops to meet the requirements of the State.
- Serve as a centre for conservation and evaluation of indigenous crop varieties and develop new high-yielding varieties with better tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses, suited to diverse agro-ecological zones.
- Provide leadership in research by conducting both basic and applied studies aimed at evolving need-based, eco-friendly, and sustainable agricultural technologies.
- Augment crop production in Kerala through innovative techniques and by utilizing fragile and underexploited areas for cultivation.
- Develop technologies for post-harvest handling and value addition of agricultural produce to enhance profitability and reduce losses.
- Transfer end-use technologies to farmers for solving field-level problems and enhancing agricultural productivity in a sustainable manner.
- Serve as a centre for agricultural database collection and maintenance, supporting research, planning, and policy-making.
- Impart training to grassroots workers, officers of the State Departments of Agriculture, Forestry, Dairy Science, central institutes, NGOs, and private organizations to update their knowledge and skills.
