Department of Nematology

Nematology was earlier established as a part of the AICRP Scheme in January 1966 in the Department of agricultural entomology , College of Agriculture  Vellayani.It was functioning as an independent unit till 1996 with seperate budget allocation. The new Department of Nematology faculty of agriculture was established in December 2015.The department is  now headed by Assistant Professor Dr.Nisha.M.S.             PG courses were offered since 2016.The course of nematology for UG students as a separate subject is  starting from next year onwards. Department offers 2 seats for PG and 2 seats for Ph.D. Currently the department is conducting research on three external aided projects - one under AICRP and the other two in RKVY. Facilities includes 3 PG class rooms, 3 PG labs, one UG lab, one glass house and one net house. Computer and internet facilities are also available in the Department.

Mandates

-To strengthen the teaching, research and extension activities in plant nematology at KAU

-To strengthen the research capability of AICRP on nematodes.

-Extention activities include training programmes under AICRP for giving awareness to farmers and research and development professionals.

-Publications of the department include 128 research articles,3 booklets,15 leaflets.
