Dr. P.R. Geetha Lekshmi, holds a Ph.D. in Horticulture with specialisation in postharvest technology of horticultural crops. Areas of research include postharvest handling of fresh fruits and vegetables, protocol development for different markets, dehydration techniques, development of functional beverages, minimal processing, utilisation of under exploited fruits and development of value-added products, extraction, and utilisation of bioactive compounds from horticultural produce. Among the various technologies developed, seven technologies have been enlisted in the Kerala Agricultural Universitys official list of technologies for transfer and commercialisation. She has published 30 research papers, book, book chapters and 70 extension literatures. She is also engaged in extension programmes for technology transfer, All India Radio, Doordarshan and entrepreneurship development programmes and serves as master trainer for Fruit and Vegetable processing under Prime Ministers Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME). Received two Netherlands Fellowship programmes and attended the International course on Lost Harvest and wasted food – managing the crop supply chain for increased food security in 2014, and the International course on Horticulture Sector Development for Emerging Markets in 2017 at Wageningen University and Research, The Netherlands. She has also received fellowship from Asian Productivity Organisation, Japan and attended training on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Advanced Postharvest Handling Technologies in 2019 in Tokyo, Japan. She has guided 16 postgraduate students, 4 doctoral students and has completed 7 externally aided research projects in the area of postharvest management.
