Department of Agricultural Economics

The Department of Agricultural Economics was established as an independent department in 1966. The courses in Agricultural Economics for the B.Sc. (Hons.)Ag. programme commenced from the start of College of Agriculture in 1955. The M.Sc. and   Ph.D. degree programme started in 2010.  The major mandate is the conduct of the academic programme at the undergraduate and post graduate level.

The sanctioned faculty strength of the department is six. At present the department functions with three faculty members. The department functions in an area of 600sqft and has a well equipped P.G. class room with computer, projector and internet facilities. The department has a well maintained library with reference books. Computer with internet facilities are provided to the staff and students and has a WiFi zone.

Extension and other activities undertaken by the department includes:

• To impart theoretical and practical knowledge with a view to develop professionals who are highly competitive in this field. 
• To undertake research in the emerging issues that have a bearing on policy formulation and beneficial to the farming community.
• To organise and participate in seminars, workshops, summer institutes and extension programmes.
