Department of Floriculture and Landscaping

The department of Floriculture and Landscaping was established in the year 1999.  The department deals with various aspects of Fruit Science, Landscaping and Floriculture.

The department offers 2 M.Sc.seats, 1 Ph.D.seat, 3 UG courses, and 28 PG courses.

Achievements

• Characterized 11 banana varieties and ecotypes belonging to plantain subgroup by RAPD technique.
• Characterized 28 banana clones.
• Screened and characterized banana varieties for leaf production.
• Standardized bunch cultural practices to optimize yield and fruit characters in Robusta.
• Standardised spacing for tissue culture Nendran banana.
• Identified an improved variety of Jack fruit "Muttom Varikka".
• Hybridized and Characterised papaya hybrids.
• Standardized High-Density Planting in Papaya.
• Ex Vitro establishment of Gladiolus.

Infrastructural facilities include 2 P.G Classrooms, Greenhouse, Net houses, Naturally ventilated poly-house, Polytunnels, a field lab, and landscaping models.
