Department of Vegetable Science

The Department of Horticulture was established in 1955, UG courses were commenced in the same year and PG and PhD courses were offered since 1976. The Department of Vegetable Science attained its status of individuality in the year 1998 by the division of Horticulture department. The Department of Vegetable science has taken much efforts to release many disease resistant and high yielding tropical vegetable crop varieties.
There are 4 faculty in the department- 1 Assistant Professor and Head and 3 Assistant Professors, assisted by 1 technical staff. The total number of seats offered under PG is 4 and Ph.D. 2. The department offers two UG courses, one experiential learning course, 8 PG courses and 6 PhD courses. The department provides a strong academic guidance for the students.
Department of vegetable science provide classroom facility for PG and UG. Laboratory facilities provided by the department include seed laboratory, seed processing building, processing yard, seed production field including one polyhouse, net house, mist chamber and rain shelter.

Hot chilli : Vellayani Thejus
Yard long bean : Vellayani Jyothika, KAU Deepika
Culinary Melon : KAU Vishal
Amaranthus : KAU Vaika
Winged bean : KAU Nithya
Cluster bean : KAU Suruchi
Sale of seeds and seedlings of different vegetable crops is carried out.
