Indian Council of Agricultural Research has designated on 3rd December as “Agricultural Education Day” to commemorate the birth anniversary of first President of Independent India and Union Minister of Agriculture, Bharat Ratna, Dr. Rajendra Prasad. For celebrating Agricultural Education Day-2024, College of Agriculture, Vellayani organised different programs to create awareness on the significance of
agricultural education, its relevance to the development of the nation and to attract the young generation to choose agriculture as the professional career after schooling.
In a heartwarming initiative to support young parents, the College of Agriculture, Vellayani, has established a crèche on its campus. This thoughtful facility enables parents to work with peace of mind, knowing their children are well cared for and close by.
Catering to pre-schoolers aged two years and above, the crèche introduces the children to a world of fun, creativity, games, and social interaction. The initiative reflects the commitment of the college to fostering a supportive environment for its staff and students with young families.
In observance of World Diabetes Day 2024, the Department of Community Science and the NSS unit of the College of Agriculture, Vellayani, joined hands with Dr. Rasheed's Diabetes Speciality Centre to organize a series of impactful events aimed at raising awareness and promoting health. The activities, held on November 14, 2024, included a medical camp, an interactive session, a quiz on diabetes, and a symbolic blue circle formation in the campus.
Katakam Rupini Krishna, a PhD student in nematology at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), has been awarded the Best Oral Presentation at the 2nd International Agriculture Conference on Natural Farming Innovations held from November 3-5, 2024, at Hansraj College, University of Delhi. The award was based on her thesis work conducted at Kerala Agricultural University's Vellayani campus, focusing on the biomanagement of the root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita) and wilt fungus (Fusarium oxysporum) disease complex in vegetable cowpea.
